Happy Tuesday! I'm finally starting to feel better....YAY! Finally food is beginning to taste good again. Don't you just hate it when your sick and nothing sounds or taste good? I didn't make any smoothies over the weekend, but did yesterday morning. It was all I could do to just drink half of it. But last night my appetite came back and food was tasting good again. I cooked Mexican for dinner last night, but I didn't take a picture. It was just one of those same ole...same ole meals, but it sure did hit the spot. :o)
My smoothie this morning also hit the spot. It was supper good! The picture doesn't look so hot, but it was good....trust me. :) I also took the picture at 6:20 this morning while it was still dark outside, and for some strange reason my kitchen lighting wasn't cooperating. This smoothie consisted of: 1 cup of almond milk, a handful of spinach, 1 tablespoon flax seeds, 1 tablespoon of local honey (for my allergies), a dash of cinnamon and ginger, 3/4 cup frozen mango, and about 10 fresh raspberries. This smoothie was so smooth and creamy that it was like drinking a milk shake for breakfast.
I normally use Agave or molasses in the place of honey, but my allergies have really been acting up since everything has started blooming. There's a man that lives about 5 miles down the road from us who raises honey bees. My sister got us 2 huge jars of his honey for Christmas, so I am starting to put it to use. I've read that if you eat local honey every day that it helps with your allergies, so I am giving it a try. I don't like being dependent on medication, so I am hoping that this will help. I had much rather cure and heal naturally if at all possible. I know honey isn't considered to be vegan, so I hope you can forgive me for eating it.
I've been wanting to incorporate more raw foods into my diet, so starting tomorrow I am going to eat a raw diet all day except for dinner. I figure that will be the best way for me to start. I've been eating way to much junk food lately. By junk food I mean way too many processed foods and sweets. I don't seem to have near the energy that I used to have, so I'm hoping by eliminating the junk and eating more raw foods that my energy levels will rise. I'm not saying that this will be a long term thing, but I am committing to it for a week ....baby steps...right? It could possibly become long term though...it all depends on how I feel after a week. I am hoping for good results...that's for sure. How do you feel about eating raw and have you ever done it for a long period of time? Did you feel better while eating a raw diet?

I think that eating more raw will definitely help and am glad to hear you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling better. Also excited to see you are doing the raw until dinner! I had to take 2 days off of doing it as I got a sore throat and all I wanted was oatmeal for breakfast and hot tea. It certainly was a difference from how I was feeling, my energy went down completely without the usual fruits and veggies during the day. My husband is even doing the raw during the day and can tell a huge difference when he is done with karate class, he feels fantastic compared to sluggish. Can't wait to see how you do and feel! Keep us all posted.
ReplyDeleteGreat sounding smoothie! I can't wait for fresh ripe berries. And good for you about the raw thing - I've been a little sick these last few days (nothing bad though) and I'm wondering if more raw would help. Let us know how it goes for you tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better at least.
Glad you hear you're feeling better! Being sick is no fun.
ReplyDeleteYour smoothie does sound really good with the mango and raspberry.
I've never eaten exclusively raw food for any length of time, but usually eat a lot of salad/raw veggies everyday in addition to cooked stuff. For me, beans are great for energy. I find that my energy levels stay really high when I eat a couple of cups of beans a day, especially brown lentils.
Looking forward to hearing about your raw diet results.
Mmm, I think I am ready for my first smoothie of the season. Raspberries sound good in a smoothie.
ReplyDeleteI don't have an opinion either way on honey or raw foods. I do think there are certain foods that are more healthy raw or lightly cooked, and others that don't matter as much. I do believe that adapting our diets can help change the way we feel -- keep experimenting until you find what suits you best!
Your smoothies always look excellent. Do you put ice in them?
ReplyDeleteMichelle - I hope you're week is better this week!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debra!
Alessandra - by the looks of your blogs...you are not lazy one bit! :)
Thanks Molly.
Vegan Mom - I hope you are feeling better! I hope I feel that big of difference after eating more of a raw diet. That's so cool that your husband is doing it also. :o)
Maud - I hope you are feeling better too! I'll keep you posted on how things are going for sure! I'm about to order "Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People". I can't wait to get it. :o)
Rose - I never thought about the beans for more energy. I have brown lentils at home so I'll have to cook some in the next day or so.
Jessica - I don't think I'll ever tire of smoothies. :)
Shen - No, I don't put ice in my smoothies. My blender can't handle the ice. :) I just use frozen fruit with a little fresh, if I have some on hand.
First time here. You have a lovely space. Interesting recipes! enjoyed browsing through your blog. Will be back for sure :-)
