Quick and Yummy Spaghetti

Happy Hump day! As most of you know, I love pasta! I had to run by the grocery store on my way home yesterday to pick up a few things, so while I was there I decided to make spaghetti for supper. I didn't want to take the time to make my own sauce, so I decided to by some Newman's Own Fire Roasted Tomato and Garlic. I now think this is my favorite store bought spaghetti sauce. It was VERY good. Here are the ingredients: Tomato Puree (Water, Tomato Paste, Citric Acid), Diced Tomatoes, Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes, Soybean Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Salt, Roasted Garlic, Spices, Garlic*, Onions*, Natural Flavor, Yeast Extract.

I bought some baby bella's while I was at the store, so I sliced some of those up to go on the spaghetti. I sauteed them red wine.....yum!!!! No additions were made to the sauce except for addition of the mushrooms and a sprinkle of nutritional yeast on top of my spaghetti. I've never had anything that didn't taste good made by Newman's. Do you ever use any of his products? Oh, Tony ate two helpings of the spaghetti, so it's omni approved also. :o) Oh, I also made some garlic toast out of whole wheat Oroweat sandwich thins. I spread some Earth balance buttery spread on the sandwich thins, sprinkled some garlic powder over the butter, and then added a pinch of dried basil! I then put it in the oven just long enough to get the bread toasted.
I added something to new to my smoothie this morning. I'm not too sure that I will add it again. I added some alfalfa sprouts....not a lot...just a few, but I could taste them. My morning smoothie consisted of 1 cup vanilla almond milk, 1tsp flax seeds, 1tsp maca powder, 1/2 scoop pea protein powder, 2 small kale leaves, some alfalfa sprouts, a dash of cinnamon, a tsp of molasses, and 6 frozen strawberries. Wow that sounds like a lot. I think it would have been perfect with out the sprouts. :o) Have you ever put sprouts in your smoothie? Maybe it would taste better with some other kind of liquid besides milk....maybe with green tea or coconut water?

  5. That plate of pasta looks perfect! I love mushrooms sauteed in wine.

I've used sprouts in smoothies and green juice, but they never really stand out to me.

  7. I like Newman's spaghetti sauce, but I've never tried that flavor. I'll keep an eye out - I like fire roasted tomatoes, and I love love garlic! Sometimes jarred sauce is a quick and tasty dinner solution.

I don't know about sprouts in smoothies. Hey, try it once, right?

  9. I don't eat pasta often so we usually have to buy a jar when we're going to eat pasta but that brand and flavor are usually exactly what we get. I like a lot of Newman's products (esp the Newman-Os!), and the philosophy behind them.
I've put pea sprouts in a smoothie before - that may have less of a flavor than alfalfa sprouts, but still added nutrition.

  10. Have never put sprouts in a smoothie as it just doesn't sound too good, but I have never liked them either. But smoothies are all trial and error. I know now, not to put celery in smoothies as they just don't mix when I do that.

  11. I never put sprouts in a smoothie either.... I like them in salads, in sandwiches, in rice paper Asian rolls, in stir fry, in miso ramen soups... Maybe they are just better in savoury dishes :-).

  12. Well, I've been using that RAW sprouted protein powder lately, if that counts. I also find that if I add a little juice to my smoothies, I can handle almost anything I put in it.

  13. I love putting wine, mushrooms and artichoke hearts in my spaghetti. I do not use Newmans Own though because it says natural flavors and sometimes that means animal products so if it does not specify I do not use it. Also, when bread has the ingredients mono or di glycerides that usualy means animal fat so I avoid those sandwhich thins too =(
