To go along with Tony's sweet potato hashbrowns, I cooked a Boca chik'n patty and some fried Napa cabbage. Cabbage was something that I despised as I was growing up. There was no way that you were going to get me to eat anything that smelled like that. I have now changed my mind and am really beginning to like it. The cabbage I cooked last night was full of flavor! I couldn't believe how great it tasted. I even cleaned my plate like a good little girl, which is BIG for me. I never eat all my food...ha Here's the recipe:
1/2 head Napa cabbage
1/2 green pepper, chopped
3 tablespoons olive oil
14 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon tumeric
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1/2 lime, juiced
Cut the cabbage into fine shreds. Heat the oil over medium heat in a non stick skillet, and saute the green pepper. After about 5 minutes add the cabbage and stir. While stirring, add all the spices and the rice vinegar. Stir until all the spices are mixed well with the cabbage. Cook for about 15-20 minutes stirring occasionally. Once the cabbage has finished cooking, remove from heat and add the fresh lime juice and mix well. It is now ready to chow down on. :o)
I don't normally have dessert, but last night I was craving Oreo cookies, but at the same time I was wishing for a milkshake. That's when I decided to make an Oreo milkshake. I used 6 Oreos in the shake, but the next time I will use 4. 6 made it way to rich, at least for me. It did hit the spot though. here's what I did.
1 1/2 cups non dairy milk (I used plain soy)
1 frozen banana
1 heaping tablespoon of natural peanut butter
4-6 Oreo cookies (6 makes for a very rich shake)
Put the milk in the freezer for about an hour to hour and a half, just until it starts to become slushy. Then, put all the ingredients into a blender and blend well. If you want chunks of Oreos in your shake, add them in after you have blended all the other ingredients together and pulse a few times. I think I will try it that way the next time. :o)
I started drinking my shake before I realized I needed to take a picture of it. Better late than never...right?
Sorry about the double spacing on the milk shake ingredients. It all the sudden started doing that, and I don't know how to fix it. Do you?
~Peace~
Your fried cabbage sounds spicy and good. I remember cabbage smelling weird as a kid, too, although I liked it in cole slaw. I'm not sure how my family made it.
ReplyDeleteI also like dessert shakes - putting in Oreos sounds really good.
Great thinking on that shake. I'm impressed!
ReplyDeleteCabbage does have a funky smell when it cooks. But it also loses a lot of its nutrition when you cook it a long time so if you cook it quickly you lose the smell and save a lot of the nutrition.
ReplyDeleteYour milkshake reminds me of something I have seen advertised for Dairy Queen I think. It does sound good.

Hi, Michelle, we just had napa cabbage on Tuesday night, too! It is definitely one of my favorite cabbages. As far as the spacing, make sure you are in the html tab when you type that text. The compose tab makes for funny spacing. I hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteSweet potato hashbrowns?! I need to attempt those along with sweet potato tots.
ReplyDeleteI love all kinds of cabbage and your recipe looks delicious! And your shake sounds really yummy.

ReplyDeleteI bet the Oreo shake was amazing. I love making homemade shakes! Banana makes all shakes so good. :)
