Out of the Loop

It's Tuesday and where have the last 6 days gone? I have been so busy...I feel like I am out of the loop since I haven't been blogging and haven't been able to read many of your posts. It's a three day work week for me, so I plan on doing alot of catching up toward the end of the week.

I want to say thank you so much for all the Thanksgiving suggestions that you have given me. I was asked to bring a salad, but now I need to decide what to take along with that. I like the idea of some sort of casserole. I will let you know after Thanksgiving what I end up making.

I've been so busy that I haven't had time to make anything new and exciting. The other night I cooked some crowder peas (which is about the only pea that Tony likes). I decided to add some of my homemade green tomato salsa to them and WOW....that was it and ever so tasty! Tony also cut up some sweet potatoes and fried them in a non stick skillet with some vegan butter, cinnamon, Red Robin seasoning, and a tad bit of brown sugar. That turned out amazing too. We also took some fresh corn out of the freezer and warmed that up along with a couple of vegan sausage patties. This was a fast yummy supper.

Sunday I was craving fruit, so I whipped up a simple smoothie that consisted of a frozen fruit mixture of strawberries, peaches, pineapples and mangoes. I added a tablespoon of wheat germ and used almond milk. It was so good that I had to make another one Monday morning. I find myself now that it is cooler not eating as much fruit. I guess my body is needing fruit, because I have really been craving it lately. Smoothies seem to be the easiest fix for me. How do you make sure you eat enough fruits in the winter time?

I have found some hot tea that we just love. My new favorite is the Papaya and Passion Fruit Green Tea. Have you ever tried The Tea Nation teas? I haven't tried many hot teas, but out of the few brands that I have tried, this is my favorite so far. I've never been much of a hot tea drinker, but these teas have turned me into one. Tony has never like hot teas either, but he loves the Raspberry Green Tea. What's your favorite brand of hot tea?

I hope everyone is having a great week so far!
~Peace~

  1. Oo, crowder peas..I don't think I've ever had them. Are they like pigeon peas? And peas, corn, sweet potato sounds like a really yummy and satisfying combo, especially with the cinnamon in the sweet potatoes.

Your smoothie sounds really good too! I agree, it's more difficult to stay as excited about fruit as in the summer...but I usually eat a lot of citrus, apples, and this time of year, persimmons.

Have a great Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to seeing what you end up making. :)

  2. I was just thinking the same thing about fruit! I've been eating alot of apples lately as the are quite plentiful around here. But, I haven't had a good smoothie in a long time!

My favorite types of tea are chai and herbal fruit tea. I love to have a chai tea with soy milk in the morning and then fruit teas in the evening after dinner. The raspberry and passion fruit get my pick!

    Happy Thanksgiving!
    xoxo!

  3. It is hard to eat fruit in the winter. I tend to rely on frozen wild blueberries, apples, cranberries and citrus this time of year.

I love lots of different teas but usually we drink white or green. We typically buy our tea loose from the tea shop. I have found you need to read the labels on flavored tea because they frequently contain unhealthy ingredients.

    Have a happy Thanksgiving,
    Ali

  7. I love salsa with peas, and I bet the homemade salsa is that much better.

Good luck with Thanksgiving - I bet you will come up with something good to share.

  8. I'm really bad with getting enough fruit in the winter. :( Seems like a smoothie or a juice would be the most efficient way of packing a fruit-filled punch, but brr!

As for tea, I'm a fan of Stash at the moment. I'm not a huge fan of herbal or fruity teas, but the Pomegranate White looks yummy!

  9. Dear Michelle

thank you so much for your kind comment, and for visiting. You have a lovely blog with lots of good ideas for dinner! Here we don't have the variety of vegan food (like sausages, bacon and cheese) that you have, but I mostly make everything anyway so I am not fussed... just surprised! Vegetarians (among which vegans) are 2% of the population (which is only 4 millions anyway - small country New Zealand!) and restaurants tend to offer one vegetarian option only, usually not so creative or tasty.

    I eat at home.

I am a vegetarian, not a vegan, but I mostly do vegan dinners because I use dairy products for breakfast. And at dinner I want a good meal! :-)

I started (slowly) to put all my vegan recipes on this blog
    http://alessandra-veganblog.blogspot.com/

which is very simple but (I hope) trendy enough to convince omnivorous that vegan dinners can be fantastic.

I have another blog with only recipes (in fact it is called Only Recipes!) where I divided the vegan from the vegetarian, but I noticed that some vegans wouldn't go near it, which I thought that was sad, but I can understand them. So I made this space only for vegan recipes (maybe you would like to include that also in your blog roll?)

Your blog roll is amazing, I will spend hours going through all your list!
And thank you for including my main blog, of course it has lots of Vegan recipes, but for your readers I advice that there are also vegetarian recipes, gardening and foraging, eco topics, travels, books and many other things that come up in my life... a bit of a diary really :-).

Well, thank you for reading all my long bla bla bla :-)
let me know what you think of http://alessandra-veganblog.blogspot.com/
I just started it and I love a professional opinion :-)

    ciao
    Alessandra

    PS
I love herbal teas, I drink them all except mint, unless is done with fresh mint leaves.

  10. I like to add apples and berries to cooked butternut squash ( and acorn, etc.). And of course fruit in my oatmeal. I forgot what u said about this - does your husband like most analogs? Does He like most of your food in general? Just curious!
