Tornado Warnings...All Afternoon

Happy Monday...I hope you haven't had to endure the weather that I have today. We have had tornado watches and warning all through out the day. I has just pulled out my lunch and was ready to eat when the tornado sirens went off. I had to leave my lunch and go to the shelter, where we ended up staying for about an hour. It's been like that on and off all day. After we were able to leave the shelter, I called my husband to see how things were at the house. He said it got very bad. Trees were down every where....limbs and derbies were every where too. Tony checked everything out around the house, and we were very fortunate that we didn't have serious damage....just a section of our shingles gone from the roof. Whew...I'm so glad that's over with. I do NOT like tornado weather. Do you have to deal with them where you live? Onto the food....this is a picture of my smoothie for Saturday. It was so good. It consisted of 1 frozen banana, 1 cup of water, a handful of spinach, 1 date, 1 pear peeled and cut up, 1 kiwi, and some protein powder. For lunch today I had a salad. I used the lemon, olive oil, agave nectar, and herbamare mixture for my dressing, which is always so refreshing. I cut up an apple to put on my salad today, which was very good for a change. I was afraid my apples would be all brown looking by the time we got back from the tornado shelter, but luckily they weren't.....YAY. "o)
I didn't cook much over the weekend since Tony was home. We ate out a lot. I guess Sunday night was the first night that I actually cooked dinner. I didn't cook anything special for myself, so I didn't take a picture. I had corn, fried potatoes, and some kale chips. I know...not a very healthy dinner, but I wasn't really hungry for some reason. I did make some kale chips Sunday afternoon. I got the recipe here. I had to use the oven method, as I don't have a dehydrator yet. These are the best kale chips I've had by far. I did however get side tracked and almost burned them, but they still turned out so good. :o)

  1. We get tornado weather here, too, which makes me so anxious. I hate when it's windy, so when it gets really bad my anxiety skyrockets. Last year the winds were gale force one day and ripped up some of our fence.

I keep hearing about kale chips and have yet to try them. I have a dehydrator, too, as well as kale in the fridge, so I don't have an excuse!

  2. We had some pretty bad weather here in Nashville as well. Campus was pretty much shut down for about an hour.

I love reading about your smoothie combinations...i can't wait to have my blender here for the summer and next year when my dorm has a kitchen...i usually drink one every morning as well for breakfast.

Glad your semi-raw diet is going well!!!

  4. Not many tornados around here, but occasionally a small one will come through. I can't imagine having to take cover in such a case, but I guess it's better than the old days when there were no warnings.Have you ever considered moving someplace safer with more vegan options?

  5. Wow, no tornado warnings around here - I'd get grumpy not being able to eat my lunch right away.
Kale chips are delicate creatures. I almost burned my first batch but they're pretty easy otherwise. And SO GOOD.

  8. We got the storm around 4am and it was like a small earthquake. I'm surprised the house didn't come down.

  9. Molly - you have got to try kale chips. I think you will really like them. :)

EdgyVedgy - that's right...you're only a couple of hours away from me. Oh man...I would be lost with out my blender and smoothies. I know you will be so glad when you have your blender.

LittleSpoon - I think I could eat kale chips everyday. :)

Shen - funny you ask about moving. That has been a discussion in our house lately. We would both love to move. So, hopefully that will happen in our very near future.

Maud - I was getting pretty grumpy myself...I was already about to starve. :) You are so right about the kale chips...delicate and so good!

Thanks Sasha! I'm glad you don't have to deal with tornados...they are so scary.

Alessandra - it was very scary. Thanks, we were very blessed that we didn't have much damage. Others around us weren't so lucky.
